Doreen Biira and the Late Michael Oyier

As Kenyans continue mourning the sudden demise of former KTN TV host Michael Oyier, the TV personality has shared her fondest memories with Oyier.

Doreen says Oyier was among the first people she worked with when she joined KTN.

She reminisced on how sociable Oyier was adding that he would greet everybody.

"Ah Michael Oyier. This one has hit hard. Where do I even begin!2012. When I joined KTN, my first co-anchors were @ericlatiff and @michaelooyier, alternating depending on the News Anchor schedules. These two gentlemen were some of the best prime-time news pairs I had the honor of working alongside. Today, let me speak about Michael. Mike, we called him.

Mike had an amazing work ethic. He was kind, focused, very self-styled, smart, respectful, a friend. Whenever he reported for duty, he’d greet every single colleague we’d be on duty with for the bulletin that evening. If it meant finding them in the gallery or cafeteria, he’d look for them there. He made sure to check on everyone before we went to the studio."

Doreen went on to admire how natural Oyier was when dealing with others.

"What kindness. Then we’d go over how my day has been, what challenges I was having (Coming in young and foreign, the Kenya media scene was new to me at the time). He’d offer all the tips and advice. I’d ask the same and he shared most of it, then we’d go over the news leads together.

He was meticulous as he was intentional about what he wanted to express. When he was not happy with a colleague, he’d use the most ‘counselor’ of words to say it. I much later got to learn he was an actual counselor."

Despite both Oyier and Doreen both leaving KTN, They kept in touch

"He was a natural. It wasn’t long before he left KTN. We stayed in touch, albeit, briefly, and then our schedules got the better part of us. I left KTN years later too. So we’d meet at events where we’d both be Moderating/Hosting and we’d chat briefly before the next session(s) or after the event. And each time we met he’d offer a piece of advice because I always had questions for him.An excellent senior colleague."

In conclusion, Doreen penned

"A Communication Consultant. A friend. A father. A brother. A coach.Thank you, Mike, for everything! My deepest condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones. God rest your soul, Michael Oyier."
