Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has assured Kenyans of his safety after a chopper he was travelling in made an emergency landing in Gishungo, Kikuyu constituency.

According to Mwaura, the landing was due to the poor weather conditions.

He was in the company of the Kenya Red Cross secretary general Idriss Ahmed.

The two, among other officials, were on their way back from Nyando, in Kisumu county, where they had gone to deliver relief non-food items to residents who had been displaced by floods.

"I am safe fellow Kenyans. Our plane had to make an emergency landing in Gishungo, Kikuyu Constituency due to poor weather conditions. Idriss Ahmed the Secretary General of the Kenya Red Cross and I had gone to Nyando in Kisumu to deliver relief of Non-Food Items (NFIs) to the Floods Affected Persons (FAPs).

"We arrived home safely and we thank God for this. Happy World Red Cross Day," he said.

In a video seen by the Star, Mwaura is heard explaining to residents what had happened and goes ahead to ask them to take care of the chopper until it is safe for it to leave.

Mwaura and Idriss issued relief to 441 flood-affected persons at Nduru Secondary School on Tuesday.

The package handed to each family was worth Sh6,500 each.

Mwaura has been going around the country assessing the flood situation and distributing aid to the most affected residents.

In some cases, they have been distributing food and non-food essential items to the affected.
