As family, friends, and the nation continue to mourn the death of marathoner Kelvin Kiptum, a section of social media is unhappy after a woman emerged alleging that they had an intimate relationship.
The claim has been sensationally made by a Kenyan tiktoker using the account name Jeylaa.Jeylaa.
She shared pictures of happier moments and captioned her condolence message "One day we will meet" in a picture where the two held each other's waists looking deep into each other's eyes.
The young woman has turned off the comments section. Kenyans are unhappy with her insinuation and have told her off in a trending hashtag, demanding she respect the grieving wife.
Jeylaa added another post telling of their last moment together.
"I wish ningejua ii ilikuwa gift ya kuniambia byee..rest in peace Kevo," she showed a red gift bag with wrapping paper. She was crying in the video shaking her head at the news.
Kiptum's widow Asenath a day ago described their last moments together.
The mother-of-two said she last saw her husband on February 10 when he left for the Fluorspar training camp in Kerio Valley, planning to return on Monday.
Kiptum had promised to take his family on an outing on Sunday but a headache led to him calling off the plans.
Kiptum and his Rwandese coach Gervais Hakizimana died in a tragic road accident Sunday night in the Kaptagat area along the Elgeyo Marakwet-Ravine road.
Kiptum is said to have been the one driving the vehicle heading to Eldoret when the accident occurred.
“The accident happened around 11 pm. The car had three occupants, two died on the spot while one was taken to hospital,” Elgeyo Marakwet County Commandant Peter Mulinge said.
